A natural place for kids to learn

We offer a unique educational experience for children of all ages (from early years to 16+) in an environment where they can learn about farm animals as well as the flora and fauna of the North East. This is a chance for them to learn about important things like recycling and sustainability - it's a great way to be introduced to the sights, sounds and smells of the countryside.

We've got loads of animals (big and small) about which pupils can find out fascinating facts. There are grazing animals like sheep and cows in our meadows, and on our farmyard there are pigs, chickens, ducks and more. Inside they can get up close and personal with small, furry animals and reptiles.

We have a well-stocked garden and orchard to explore. Plus, our shop sells trinkets and gifts (a great place to spend pocket money), as well as special animal food if you'd like to give our residents a treat.

Prices start from £4 per child.

Feeding time

The children are welcome to bring their packed lunch and eat it in our classroom. Just email admin@ouseburnfarm.org.uk to hire it out.

Our friendly cafe also serves all manner of homemade delights if you'd like to buy lunch!

Covering your curriculum

Our workshops cover the four pillars of the Ofsted inspection framework and can be adapted to fit in with your curriculum.

The benefits of outdoor learning:

  • Children develop their curiosity, confidence and creativity

  • Meets the Foundation Stage learning objectives and develops practical life skills

  • Many children thrive in this kind of environment compared to the traditional classroom learning

  • Physical, social and health benefits for children who are increasingly leading 'indoor lives'

Charity begins at the farm

We're a local charity that's supported by generous donations from visitors and friends. We're run by dedicated staff and volunteers for the benefit of the community.

Whatever you need, we have a highly motivated team that has lots of experience in running educational workshops for school children, and whether you want a half-day or full-day trip, we can tailor our packages to fit you and your budget. As a charity, it's really important we're accessible and affordable to all.

Just contact admin@ouseburnfarm.org.uk with any questions or for more information.

Remember, all money invested in the farm goes back into the farm to help our community.
