We have parking for disabled visitors who have a blue badge at the rear of the farm. There are additional reserved car parking bays close to the farm for disabled visitors. For other visitors, there is limited parking under Byker Bridge and along Lime Street. A 57 space car park is available over the little foot bridge on Foundry Lane, NE6 1LH. This can be accessed from Byker Bank. There is additional parking to be found a short walk from Ouseburn Farm on Stepney Road, Ford Street, Albion Row and Spiller’s Car Park.

We have finished lamb feeding sessions for this year. New sessions will happen in Spring.
On a general visit to the farm, it is not possible to pet all the animals (although our cow Willow and our goats always love a stroke!). However we do offer specific weekend/school holiday animal sessions such as Farmers Club and Caring for Critters if you are looking for animal interaction. Please see our 'What's On' page for details.
We have duck, chicken and pig food available to buy in our Farm Shop with refillable tins that you can choose to keep or take back to our shop for a £1 refund. For your own health and safety, please don’t touch your face while touching the animals and remember to always wash your hands thoroughly after feeding them.
Schools are welcome to do self-guided visits anytime during our opening hours (Tuesday - Sunday, 10am - 3pm). We work with adults with learning disabilities who are sometimes affected by noise, so for large groups please split up when you are making your way around the site. Please note, we do not have indoor space for large groups to eat packed lunches but we do have an outdoor seating area near the main gate entrance. If you want a tour from our staff, we can arrange this depending on staff availability for a donation towards our charitable costs. Please contact us to arrange: admin@ouseburnfarm.org.uk
We have a free sensory trail which is a fun and engaging activity to learn about what you can see, smell, hear and touch whilst navigating the farm. Please ask for a free checklist from our shop.

Please contact our Placement Programme Lead to discuss: andrea.haynes@ouseburnfarm.org.uk

Ouseburn Farm relies on your gifts and donations. They keep our gates open for free, fund our Placement Programme with adults with additional needs, provide a safe home for our animals, help us run farm-based activities for children and families, and sustain our farm and gardens, where our community can learn about nature and growing. You can sponsor an animal at the farm which is a lovely way to support us, and makes a great gift for the animal lover in your life! Find out more about how to donate via our website: https://www.ouseburnfarm.org.uk/donate You can also donate using contactless or cash at the donation podiums at the farm. Thank you!
Please be aware that visiting Ouseburn Farm and coming into contact with animals comes with some potential risk. To ensure this risk is minimised, never eat or drink anything whilst on the farmyard, don’t touch your face whilst interacting with the animals and always thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water after visiting the farm and/or before you eat or drink anything. If you are supervising children or adults with additional needs at the farm please ensure they also follow these rules. If you or anyone in your group feels unwell after visiting the farm, please seek medical assistance.
If you have a student survey or project and you would like to feature the farm, please email admin@ouseburnfarm.org.uk. We need to be aware of all public surveys/ filming and photography taking place at the farm as we have children and adults with learning disabilities on site. We do get a lot of requests for surveys, and as a tiny team we are unfortunately unable to take part in all of them.
Our goats, sheep and cow go out to the fields to graze on most days during spring/ summer. You can find them in the fields under the Byker Bridge viaduct or in the fields opposite the Rolls Royce garage, next to Cookhouse.
Ouseburn Farm is a working farm, founded by grassroots community action in 1976, building on a long history of grazing animals in the Ouseburn dating back to the 1880s. Families from nearby Byker wanted their children to experience the countryside, agriculture, and animal husbandry, and to produce food and understand where it comes from. Today, our community tells us they want these same things from us: for children to understand the connection between the food on their plate and the land where it’s cultivated and reared. Maintaining a working farm is the best way we can do this. First-hand experience of farming also helps to tackle food poverty by educating families and children about food and helping them to come to their own, informed decisions about what’s best for their health and wellbeing, and the environment. Whilst most of our animals live on the farm permanently, as a working farm, occasionally some animals are sold to market.
Ouseburn Farm grows food that is healthy, sustainable and affordable. We work to educate our visitors about the role that farming plays in our environment and we champion best practice and innovation. We promote healthy, affordable food that is grown to high standards and which supports good livelihoods. We strive to effectively manage our resources, recognising the importance of soil, water and air as habitats for animals, crops and wildlife, and minimise the risk of pollution (for instance -identifying risk of effluent runoff and getting funding to build a muck bay -working in partnership with Tyne Rivers Trust). We respect, protect and create natural habitats through stewardship of our land, and control and avoid invasive species. We will work to encourage farm visitors to make sustainable choices in regards to travel to and from the farm, and have volunteer roles dedicated towards reducing our carbon footprint.
