Growth and learning for adults with learning disabilities, difficulties
and autism spectrum disorder
Ouseburn Farm is a place for growing - plants, animals but most of all people. Since 2011, we have been improving the wellbeing and quality of life of adults with learning disabilities, difficulties and autism spectrum disorder (our Placements) at our city farm. Through hands-on experience in our bustling farmyard, gardens and visitor centre we make a huge difference to their lives – they tell us every day and evaluation of our work shows this too. By coming to the farm:
98% of our Placements say they have the chance to do more things that they enjoy
93% say they are better able to relate to others
93% have more confidence in what they can do
95% say their ability to make new friends has improved
93% say they feel more included and less alone
88% said their ability to work on a task by themselves has improved
We offer two routes into a placement at the farm - work-based placements for people who want to gain vocational skills and who can work independently, with little supervision. And workshop placements for people who'd benefit from group work and extra support.
