The Farm’s expert sheep herder

Pip doesn’t actually live at Ouseburn Farm. She belongs to Farmer Richie and travels in from her home in Northumberland to help out!

Pip has a very important job: helping herd the Farm’s sheep. You might hear him giving her special commands such as ‘Come-bye’ to move clockwise around the sheep and ‘Away’ to move the other way. When she’s not hard at work, she likes nothing better than a tummy-rub.

Farm file

  • Breed/species: Sheepdog
  • Favourite food: Tinned mackerel….or a pasty
  • Known for: Her best friend Pig, a tiny Chihuahua belonging to Emma, our Small Animals Lead. They might be completely different sizes, but they’re besties!

Did you know?

Sheepdogs can learn lots of different whistles and commands. A good working sheepdog can even control a whole flock of sheep from a long way away by listening to their farmer.
